Bearings are designed to have a long and productive life but to maximise the service life of the bearing it’s important to identify some of the most common bearing failures and understand how to spot these and prevent early failure.
Premature bearing failure can occur for a variety of reasons so it’s important to understand the primary causes. These include inadequate and improper lubrication, overload, improper handling and installation, and contamination (which accounts for 14% of premature bearing failure), particularly in moist or contaminated areas.
Failure to spot and address these factors may cause bearings to continue to fail prematurely which can subsequently result in reduced operating efficiency and costly downtime.
