Product details : SMC JMGPM25-30
The JMGP series double piston cylinder from the SMC Group combines two piston rods guided by a plain bearing and an integrated connecting plate, thereby reducing the space requirement compared with a standard compact cylinder with external guidance. It is available in ten piston diameters from 12 to 100 mm and covers sliding, lifting and clamping operations.
Features:
The double piston cylinder offered by SMC combines two parallel piston rods, which are rigidly connected to a connecting plate and guided by a plain bearing integrated into the housing. This design limits plate rotation and reduces the cantilever effect when absorbing transverse loads and torques, without relying on an attached external guide. Compared with a compact cylinder with additional guidance of the CXSM type, the overall length with a comparable piston diameter and stroke can be reduced by up to 48 % and the weight by up to 38 %, while the permissible transverse load increases by a factor of 6.6 and the accuracy of the anti-rotation function improves by up to 40 %.
Four connection orientations are possible: on the side on both sides, at the top or at the rear of the housing. Mounting follows the same logic, from above, from below or from behind, and several units can be installed side by side with a reduced centre distance, the value of which varies depending on the piston diameter. A magnet integrated in the piston allows electronic sensors to be fitted in the intended grooves.
The ordering code combines a prefix identifying the series (JMGP) and the guide type (M: plain bearing guide), a two-digit number for the piston diameter, a number after a hyphen for the stroke in millimetres, an optional letter for the port thread (omitted for metric thread, TN for NPT connection, TF for G connection from Ø40) and then a final suffix indicating the mounted sensor (blank if none is present) and its quantity: no letter for two sensors, S for a single one, n for a variable number.

Strengths
• The integrated plain bearing guide avoids the addition of an external anti-rotation device and simplifies mechanical integration
• A reduced length and reduced weight compared with a cylinder with attached guide create space in compact configurations
• The permissible transverse load, increased by up to 6.6 times compared with a cylinder without integrated guidance, allows off-centre forces to be absorbed without an additional reinforcement structure
• Four connection orientations and three mounting directions make adaptation to different frame configurations easier
• Compatibility with electronic sensors enables position monitoring without modifying the cylinder housing

Applications
Sliding, lifting and clamping operations on parts or light to medium loads are the main applications for this cylinder family, particularly the handling of pipes, boxes or assemblies to be positioned in a production line. The compact housing and increased resistance to transverse loads favour integration in assembly stations, kitting cells or handling systems where available space remains limited. The integrated guide also makes it possible to equip clamping or holding devices for parts during machining or testing operations without relying on an additional external guide. The option of installing several units side by side with a centre distance reduced depending on the piston diameter is suitable for multi-station configurations in special-purpose machines and automated lines.
