Product details : LOCTITE 8040 FREEZE AND RELEASE 400ML 760225
LOCTITE® LB 8040 is a fast-acting mineral-oil-based lubricant designed to release rusted, corroded and seized metal parts. Also known as Freeze & Release, it uses a shock-freezing effect to cool components instantly to -43°C, creating microscopic cracks in the rust layer. This allows the lubricating ingredients to penetrate directly into the rust by capillary action, helping to facilitate disassembly. Once released, the parts remain lubricated and protected against corrosion.
Features:
LOCTITE® LB 8040 is an amber, mineral-oil-based lubricant formulated specifically for use on metal substrates. As a non-curing product, it remains in lubricant form after application rather than hardening or forming a bonded layer. Its lubricant viscosity is below 5 mPa·s (cP), while its density is 0.6 g/ml at 20°C. The product is supplied as a spray, enabling targeted application to metal components during maintenance and repair operations. For optimum product stability, it is to be stored in the unopened container in a dry location at temperatures between 8°C and 21°C; storage below 8°C or above 28°C may adversely affect its properties. This product is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen-rich systems and should not be selected as a lubricant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials.
Specifications:
• Chemical type: Mineral oil.
• Colour: Amber.
• Cure: Not applicable.
• Application: Rust treatment.
• Dispensing method: Spray.
• Key substrates: Metals.
• Density at 20°C: 0.6 g/ml.

• Lubricant viscosity: <5 mPa·s (cP).
• Optimal storage temperature: 8°C to 21°C.
• Pack size: 400 ml aerosol.
Standards:
- CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008: LOCTITE® LB 8040 is classified as an extremely flammable aerosol (Aerosol 1, H222) and contains a pressurised container that may burst if heated (H229). It is also classified for skin irritation (Skin Irrit. 2, H315), specific target organ toxicity following repeated exposure (STOT RE 2, H373) and as hazardous to the aquatic environment with long-lasting effects (Aquatic Chronic 3, H412).
- RoHS – Directive 2011/65/EU: LOCTITE® LB 8040 does not contain the restricted substances listed under the RoHS Directive, as amended by Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2015/863, in concentrations above the specified limits.

Strengths
• Fast-acting formulation helps release rusted, corroded and seized metal components.
• Shock-freezing effect down to -43°C facilitates the penetration of the lubricant into the rust layer.
• Low lubricant viscosity of <5 mPa·s (cP) supports penetration into restricted areas between seized metal parts.
• Non-curing mineral-oil formulation remains as a lubricant rather than forming a hardened layer.
• Leaves released components lubricated and protected against corrosion.
• Spray format allows targeted application to metal components during maintenance and repair work.
• Optimal storage range of 8°C to 21°C provides defined conditions for maintaining product properties during storage.

Applications
LOCTITE® LB 8040 is designed for industrial maintenance and repair operations involving rusted, corroded or seized metal components. The product is specifically intended for rust treatment and for loosening rusted parts, with nuts, bolts, studs and other metal components cited as typical applications. Its spray format and low-viscosity mineral-oil formulation make it suitable for targeted treatment of metal assemblies requiring disassembly.
After the component has been released, the remaining lubricant helps keep the treated parts lubricated and protected against corrosion. This makes LOCTITE® LB 8040 suitable for maintenance and repair situations where seized metal components need to be dismantled while retaining lubrication after release.
