Product details : LOCTITE 640 HIGH STRENGTH HIGH TEMPERATURE SLOW CURE 250ML 601401

LOCTITE® 640 retaining compound is a methacrylate-based anaerobic adhesive designed for close-fitting cylindrical assemblies. The relatively slow curing speed provides extended positioning time, making it particularly suitable for large-diameter components and active metals such as brass. UV fluorescence facilitates visual inspection during quality control procedures.

Features:
LOCTITE® 640 is a green, single-component liquid retaining compound formulated using acrylic urethane methacrylate technology and designed for securing cylindrical fits. Anaerobic cure is initiated when the product is confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air, helping to prevent loosening and leakage caused by shock loads and vibration. The slow cure time provides extended assembly time for large-diameter components and for parts manufactured from active metals such as brass. UV fluorescence allows fast and reliable identification of the bonded area during quality inspections, making it easier to verify product coverage and continuity after application.

• Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP): hazard classification and labelling are provided in accordance with this regulation.
• ISO 10123: test method for determining shear strength on shaft-and-hub specimens.
• ISO 3104: the Cannon-Fenske viscosity measurement is given with reference to this standard.
• ISO 11359-2: test method used to determine the coefficient of thermal expansion of cured materials.
• ISO 8302: test method used to determine the thermal conductivity characteristics of cured materials.
• ISO 10964: test method used to determine breakloose torque and prevailing torque values.

Strengths

• Longer positioning time due to slow curing, particularly beneficial for large-diameter assemblies.
• Simplified quality control through UV fluorescence, allowing easy identification of the applied product.
• Suitable for active metals such as brass as well as steel.
• Maintains performance after curing across a service temperature range from -55 °C to 175 °C.

Applications

This product is suitable for metal-to-metal cylindrical assemblies in maintenance and production environments where the objective is to retain a component on a shaft or within a housing while reducing the risk of loosening under vibration. Typical applications include:
• Retaining keys and splines.
• Retaining bushings and sleeves in housings and on shafts.
• Keeping bearings in place and preventing spin out.
• Retaining rotor to shafts in fractional and sub-fractional horsepower motors.
• Eliminating backlash in worn assemblies.
• Retaining rings and liners in housings and on shafts.
• Restoring fit in worn or out-of-tolerance assemblies.
• And other cylindrical retaining applications.
