FAG
FAG: Schaeffler Expertise in Bearings and Housings
A flagship brand of the German Schaeffler Group,
FAG offers a complete range of bearings and bearing
units designed for performance and durability.
Here you’ll find all FAG bearings — including
ball bearings, cylindrical roller
bearings, tapered roller bearings,
spherical bearings, and more — as well as
housings and other products such as
seals, sleeves, and
lubricants.
Our promise: reliable products, wide stock availability, controlled lead times, and expert advice to secure your MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) supply chain.
FAG: Bearing Expertise from the Schaeffler Group
Until the early 2000s, FAG operated independently
within the bearing industry. It later joined the Schaeffler
Group, strengthening its production capacity and innovation
potential.
Once competitors, FAG now collaborates with
INA, LuK, and Ruville
in R&D.
Within the group, FAG and INA complement each other:
- FAG focuses on power bearings and applications requiring high load capacity.
- INA specialises in needle bearings, linear guidance systems, and precision components.
FAG Product Ranges Available at Rubix
- Ball bearings: The ultimate versatile solution, FAG ball bearings are ideal for motors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, and conveyors. They stand out for their low friction, speed performance, and wide availability.
- Cylindrical roller bearings: Recommended for high radial loads and compact assemblies (gearboxes, rolling mills, presses, heavy machinery). Their design ensures increased stiffness and precise guidance.
- Tapered roller bearings: Perfect for combined radial and axial loads (transmissions, wheels, gears). Axial clearance can be adjusted during assembly to optimise accuracy and load handling.
- Spherical roller bearings: Designed to accommodate shaft misalignment and offset, FAG spherical bearings offer outstanding robustness in dusty or shock-prone environments such as quarries, conveyors, and crushers.
- Housings & precision bearings: FAG housings — whether ready-to-mount units, cast iron, or sheet steel — simplify integration and maintenance. Precision spindle bearings are widely used in machine tools and other demanding industrial applications.
Understanding FAG Bearing Nomenclature
Like all bearings, FAG designations follow a
consistent structure: “prefix – code – suffix.”
The base code follows ISO conventions
and is identical across manufacturers. It identifies the bearing family,
size, and bore diameter. Prefixes and
suffixes specify characteristics such as:
- Material: steel, stainless (S)
- Cage type: steel (J), polyamide (TVH), brass (M)
- Sealing: NBR seals (2RSR), shields (2Z), dust covers (2ZR)
- Radial clearance: standard (CN), reduced (C2), or increased (C3 to C5)
Example: reference 6205-2RSR-C3.
This is a single-row deep groove ball bearing (6) of
series 6200 (62) with a 25 mm bore,
52 mm outer diameter, and 15 mm width
(05). It includes two NBR seals (2RSR) and
increased internal clearance (C3) — ideal for
high-speed or high-temperature applications.
Generation C and X-life: When FAG Pushes Performance Further
In recent years, FAG has innovated in manufacturing
efficiency and product quality, particularly with its Generation
C ball bearings — quieter, smoother, and more efficient, with
minimal friction torque.
This new generation enhances both sealing and reliability at high
speeds.
Schaeffler
has also introduced the X-life label, ensuring
significantly improved quality and tighter manufacturing
tolerances.
The result speaks for itself: an X-life FAG bearing
vibrates less, supports higher loads, lasts longer, and reduces friction
even further — making it the ideal choice for demanding industrial
applications.
