Bump cap and bump cap - accessory

In hazardous working environments, a bump cap protects workers’ heads against impacts with hard objects.

Equipped with a reinforced shell under the textile, it allows staff to carry out their tasks in comfortable and safe conditions. Rubix offers a wide range of certified personal protective equipment selected for their strength, comfort, and design.

Why use a bump cap?

The bump cap is part of personal protective equipment (PPE), and its role is to protect workers’ heads in the event of bumps or impacts with hard objects.

The difference between a bump cap and a safety helmet lies in the fact that a helmet protects against falling objects, unlike the bump cap. The bump cap is worn indoors or where wearing a helmet is not mandatory.

See our dedicated head protection category to discover our specific helmets and helmet accessories if needed.

Who is this equipment for?

The reinforced bump cap complies with EN 812 standards. It is mainly intended for professionals in the construction, industrial, and food sectors. These workers can be exposed to head impact risks in the course of their duties.

However, this equipment can also suit many other workers requiring adapted, effective, and discreet head protection, such as:

• law enforcement
• plumbers
• airport staff
• automotive repairers
• farmers

Bump caps: models and standards

Characteristics

The bump cap consists of a ventilated fabric part and a removable shell. It also has a retention system (nape strap or adjustable chin strap).

As its appearance is quite like that of regular caps, this equipment is appreciated both for its effective protection and for its discretion.

Different types of bump caps

Lightweight, comfortable and stylish, the bump cap comes in several versions (peak lengths, shell type, materials, style, etc)

Criteria to consider when choosing include:

• the type of shell and its material (articulated ABS plastic, solid high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
• the fabric (cotton or polyester)
• the peak length (from 2.5 cm to 7 cm)
• retention systems (slider, chin strap)
• options/finishes: reflective piping, machine-washable textile, flame-retardant treatment, sweatband
• impact resistance
• product weight

Of course, design and colour can also be important.

Depending on your field of activity, you may also need to take into account other criteria such as temperature conditions. Some models can be used in environments with negative temperatures (-10°C) or high heat (+50°C).

What are the standards for this protective equipment?

Safety bump caps comply with the EN 812 standard, which defines requirements for strength, comfort, and ventilation.
